Market infrastructure institutions (MIIs) comprising stock exchanges, clearing corporations, and depositories, are urging the SEBI to ease penal actions for technical glitches. SEBI, in 2021, introduced a standard operating procedure mandating financial disincentives for MIIs and their officials in case of glitches. This included a penalty of 10% of the annual pay for the managing director and chief technical officer. MIIs have formally requested SEBI to reconsider the imposition of this penalty. The Securities and Exchanges Board of India is now seeking suggestions on the applicability of these financial disincentives.
